Mike Thompson
Managing Partner/CEO/CISO/Board Member
Mike Thompson is a senior executive and trusted advisor with more than 35 years of strategic and operational leadership in professional and technology services, including over 20 years in cybersecurity and identity consulting.
He is the Managing Partner and CISO of Quanta Cyber, where he leads applied research and strategy in post-quantum cryptography (PQC), quantum-resilient cybersecurity, and AI-secure innovation, conducted in collaboration with academic institutions, industry partners, and the State of Texas.
Mike is also the Founder and Managing Partner of SME Cybersecurity, an advisory firm that partners with private equity, venture capital, and investment-banking organizations to evaluate, acquire, and build next-generation cybersecurity companies.
In addition, Mike serves as Chair of Quantum Cybersecurity for the Tech Titans Quantum Technology Forum and as a Board Member on the Southern Methodist University (SMU) Cyber Advisory Board, helping shape cybersecurity and quantum education and workforce development across Texas.
Previously, he served as Chief Growth Officer and Head of Global M&A at iC Consult Group, where he helped position the firm as the world’s leading pure-play identity and access management consultancy. As Managing Partner and CEO of ICSynergy International, he built a top-tier identity solutions advisory firm and successfully led its acquisition by a global private-equity leader.
Earlier in his career, Mike held executive roles with Ericsson, Nortel Networks, and Bell Canada, where he led large-scale transformation, integration, and growth initiatives across North America and Europe.
Dr. Shaibal Chakrabarty
Partner/CTO
Dr. Shaibal Chakrabarty is a highly experienced global technology executive (PhD in Computer Science from Southern Methodist University, 2018). Currently, Shaibal is CTO/Co-Founder at SME Cybersecurity, responsible for technology leadership in advisory services. Prior to this role, Shaibal was at Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), leading end-state cybersecurity architecture across multiple programs and driving Federal Reserve cybersecurity (FFIEC) baseline requirements for SVB’s Global Security Organization. Before SVB, at AT&T Cybersecurity, Shaibal held a portfolio of managed network security services with full P&L responsibility. He teaches cybersecurity graduate classes at SMU and has published jointly with SMU’s AT&T Virtualization Center.
Shaibal’s PhD research focused on securing the Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled Smart Cities from the threat of cyberattack. During his PhD, Shaibal continued to influence industry through his leadership in the North Texas Regional Technology Council (Tech Titans, techtitans.org/) and US Ignite (a White House Science and Technology policy initiative, www.us-ignite.org). Shaibal launched the Cybersecurity Forum with the Tech Titans, which brings together corporations, academia, and the government to form a regional Center of Excellence.
Prior to his PhD work, Shaibal spent over 20+ years in global roles at Cisco and Nortel.
Erin Tiedeman
Partner/COO
Erin is a highly accomplished customer success executive with over 25 years of experience. She has led strategic growth initiatives in numerous Fortune 500 companies, with responsibilities for field and partner operations, services, and customer success organizations. She is renowned as an expert in building professional services practices and customer success organizations. Erin's exceptional ability to work across the enterprise, with multiple partners and diverse technologies, helps companies to think big while adapting to change. Erin serves as Partner/COO and Co-Founder at SME Cybersecurity, providing due diligence and integration planning for PE, VCs, and investment bankers. She also plays a pivotal role in shaping strategy and organizational models for emerging cybersecurity entrants. Previously, Erin led Customer Service at Tealium, where she was recruited to build, scale, and lead a world-class Customer Success and Professional Services program. At Okta, Erin was a senior executive directing regional professional services sales and delivery for a leader in identity and access management solutions. She oversaw the delivery of 200+ professional service projects per year. She has held senior leadership roles with companies in various stages of growth, such as Lucent, Varolii, BMC Software, Coinstar, Redbox, and Outerwall.
